The Schwa

what is schwa?

What is The Schwa?  Technically, it (the symbol shown above) is an unstressed, neutral vowel.  It is also my nickname (completely unrelated).  See, my name is Joshua.  Rather than going by ‘just Josh’, I go by Schwa (the latter part of my name).  It came about when a former manager continually called me Josh in meetings and I would finish his address with ‘shu-wa’ (emphasizing that my name is Josh-UA, not just Josh).  It ended up becoming Schwa and that’s that.

So…I L-O-V-E food and wine.  It’s my job.  But I’m not a cook or a chef; I’m a server (waiter if you prefer).   While I started in the restaurant industry to make some quick cash, I eventually found that I truly enjoy working with and selling great food and beverage.   Over the past 10 years (off and on), I have been fortunate to work with some amazing and talented chefs and learned more than I could have ever imagined about food.  In turn, I also learned and experienced more than I ever planned about wine and beverage (beer, cocktails).

Taking what I have experienced and utilizing it in my own kitchen adventures has led me to this.  I am not a chef, I don’t plan to be.   I am not a sommelier, but a simple wine-o.   Definitely a self-proclaimed foodie.  This is an online journal of my own adventures in the kitchen, restaurant experiences, and the potentially the occasional life lesson (or just an archive of debauchery!).
